Flor Z. Perolina - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation (AFI) yesterday turned over four school buildings and other facilities worth P25 million to four public schools in Mandaue City.

Representing AFI in the turnover were Jon Ramon Aboitiz, president, Romy Ronquillo, trustee, and Sonny Carpio, executive vice president.

The project is part of the Public Partnership Program (PPP) wherein 70 percent of the cost or P25 million was shouldered by AFI with 30 percent being the counterpart of the city government.

“Sixty to seventy percent of our budget (corporate social responsibility) goes to school building projects in Mandaue because the administration of Mayor Jonas Cortes is very receptive to partnership with the private sector,” Jon Ramon said.

The facilities that were turned over yesterday include a 2-story, 4-classroom school building in Banilad Elementary School, a 2-story, 4-classroom school building in Cabancalan I Elementary School, a 3-story, 3-classroom school building in Canduman National High School, and a 3-story, 3 classroom school building and refurbished laboratories and 600 armchairs to Subangdaku Technical-Voc National High School.

Mayor Jonas Cortes thanked the Aboitizes for providing the basic needs of students as he urged the academe to take good care of the facilities so the future generation can also benefit from the donation.

City Division Superintendent Virginia Zapanta promised to optimize the use of the facilities. (FREEMAN)
