For this year: Road, drainage projects top Mandaue priority list

CEBU, Philippines - This year, the Mandaue City government will definitely implement road and drainage projects, city planning officer Florentino Nimor said.

Nimor said 20 percent of the city’s expected Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA), which totals P90 million, will be used to improve roads and drainages and to implement projects under the Performance Governance System (PGS).

He said the city will coordinate with the DPWH in implementing the road and drainage projects.

The city plans to pursue the opening of a 700-meter road that will connect M. C. Briones Street and the Mantawi Drive at the reclamation area.

Some P45 million will go to PGS projects, which include the Bantay Mandaue Command Center, the My Mandaue Urban Development Program, and the Mandaue Investment and Promotion Action Center.

The rest of the amount will go to road and drainage projects.

“We will sit down with Mayor Jonas Cortes next week to discuss the specific road and drainage projects that we will implement this year,” Nimor said.

The city embarked on joint road and drainage projects with the Department of Public Works and Highways 7 sixth engineering district last year.

Nimor said the rehabilitation of the drainage system along A.S. Fortuna has lessened floods in the area.

This year, the city will fix the sewage systems in the eastern side of Mandaue and in barangays Opao and Umapad. (FREEMAN)
