3 hurt by firecrackers

CEBU, Philippines - At least two people were injured by firecrackers in Talisay City despite a government scare campaign against reckless revelry to welcome the Christmas celebration. 

A 13-year-old boy from Talisay City sustained serious injuries when a whistle bomb exploded in his hand past 10 p.m. Monday. 

Mark Benedict Labarejas, of sitio Hollow Blocks, barangay Tabunok, was taken to the Talisay City District Hospital. 

“Giduslitan sa bata ang usa sa mga rebentador nga iyang gipunit apan wala man siya makabantay nga naapil diay usab niya og duslit ang pinunit niyang whistle bomb hinungdan nga mibuto kini sa iyang kamot,” the police record said.   

Rodrigo Diaz, 45, of sitio Sangi, barangay Tabunok, was rushed at hospital after a firecracker exploded, wounding her on the leg on Christmas Day.

In Mandaue City, a seven-year-old boy was brought to the Mandaue City Hospital on Christmas Day for minor burns in his hands. (FREEMAN)
