Mandaue officials help build houses at relocation site
CEBU, Philippines - Two hundred city and barangay officials of Mandaue City led by Mayor Jonas Cortes yesterday showed up at the 6.5-hectare relocation site in barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City to help build houses for beneficiaries.
The occasion was dubbed “Pasko sa Pagtinabangay Alang sa Inyong Panimalay.”
During a short program, Cortes thanked all the city officials and barangay captains for sharing their time and effort.
He also said that some non-governmental organizations have seen the success of the socialized housing project and that they are willing to provide financial assistance.
The Habitat for Humanity, headed by Fernando Zobel de Ayala, is one of organizations.
The city and barangay officials grouped themselves into three and formed a human chain for the easy transfer of bricks from the holding area to the houses undergoing construction.
They also lifted and carried a house made of light materials to an area where it rightly belongs.
The activity closed yesterday noon with a “boodle fight.”
The beneficiaries received a pail filled with rice and groceries. (FREEMAN)
