Naga sends aid to Pablo victims

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Naga City yesterday sent financial assistance to victims of typhoon Pablo in Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley province.

Mayor Valdemar Chiong said the city council unanimously approved the release of P1 million from the city’s 2012 budget as relief and rehabilitation assistance to the typhoon victims.

Chiong said each of the province will receive P500,000, to be taken from the Quick Response Fund under the Local Disaster Risk Management Fund of Naga.

“Mas maayo nang motabang ta kay kita’y tabangan. Magpasalamat man gani ta nga ang siyudad wala maigo sa maong katalagman,” Chiong said.

The most devastated towns, can now be reached by relief goods as well as aid workers from Davao City following the reopening of the Compostela-Cateel Road to big trucks.

The towns of Baganga and Cateel in Davao Oriental, together with New Bataan in Compostela Valley province, are among the hardest hit by typhoon Pablo and account for a majority of the nearly 800 people confirmed to have died from mudslides, floods, and strong winds triggered by the typhoon that made landfall in the Davao region last week.  (FREEMAN)
