DH’s mother seeks Naga’s assistance

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The mother of an overseas Filipino worker yesterday sought help from the Naga City government in connection with the plight of her 20-year-old daughter who was reportedly molested and harassed by her employer in Qatar.

Silvana Aplacadores, 55, from barangay Langtad, Naga City, wants her daughter, Isabel Rivera, who has been working as a domestic helper, to come home safely.

Aplacadores claimed that last month her daughter was slapped and imprisoned inside her employer’s home when she asked for her pay.

She also said her daughter was denied food and water.

Rivera left for Qatar in October through Al-Alamia International Manpower Services, which helped her process her papers to get there.

Rivera was reportedly working for a certain Hussain Ghareb Gh Abualfain in Qatar.

But a month after, Aplacadores claimed her daughter complained to one of her sisters when she was denied by her employer her first pay.

Aplacadores said Rivera was crying and complaining that her employer slapped her when she attempted to ask for her pay.

Rivera called one of her siblings to say she was being detained inside the Qatar national’s house without food and not allowed to go outside the house.

Naga City Public Employment Services Office (PESO) chief Arlene Aligawa said her office will take Rivera’s case to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Mariquit Ramos, a representative of Al-Alamia International Manpower Services, said her office received Aplacadores’ concern last week and that steps have been taken to help her. (FREEMAN)
