CEBU, Philippines -  Lapu-Lapu City officials lauded officials of Lexmark International Philippines, Inc. for adopting an elementary school in barangay Babag.

Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong represented Mayor Paz Radaza during the turnover of school buildings by Lexmark International Phils. Inc at Tiangue Elementary School in barangay Babag.

According to Vice Mayor Ycong, it is necessary that children must be provided with quality education so that they will be equipped with the skills needed to face the challenges of the modern world, where competition is fierce and resources are scarce.

The vice mayor said the city has given much importance on education because it firmly believes it is a necessary tool for people to improve their economic status.

Ycong said he and Mayor Radaza express their gratitude to Lexmark International Philippines Inc. for supporting the administration’s efforts to give students quality education.

“I would also like to thank Lexmark president and CEO Dr. Robert Gerwig for undertaking the renovation of the school buildings here in Tiangue Elementary School.

“With the renovation of the school buildings in Tiangue Elementary School, our students will now have a more conducive environment for learning, Ycong said.

Educating our youth is essential in future-building, we need to provide our young the skills and the capacity to compete in the real world, he said.

With government’s limited funds and unlimited priorities, it has to partner with the private sector in educating our youth.

“I laud Lexmark International for choosing education as its community outreach program, “ the vice mayor said.

He hopes other corporations doing business in the city will also choose education as their flagship corporate social responsibility, he said.

“If only most of the corporations that do business in our city will follow Lexmark’s footsteps by choosing education as their CSR then someday soon we will be able to address the needs of the public schools, “ he said. (FREEMAN)
