CEBU, Philippines - The celebration of the annual fiesta of Lapu-Lapu City in honor of its patron, Virgen dela Regla, was generally peaceful, police said.
No untoward incident was reported despite the thousands of visitors that descended on the island from Cebu province and other parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.
Lapu-Lapu City police chief Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas attributed the success of the fiesta to the cooperation of the public.
Hundreds of policemen and soldiers from the Philippine Air Force were deployed to barangay Gun-ob where nightly activities were held at the city auditorium, located near the Virgen dela Regla Parish Church.
Traffic enforcers from the City Traffic Management System also were deployed at the different corners in the barangay.
A minor rerouting of vehicles was implemented by the CTMS officials.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza thanked everybody who made the celebration successful.
The mayor also attended the coronation of the Miss Lapu-Lapu beauty contest.
Brethney Bering was declared Miss Lapu-Lapu 2012. First runner-up was Jamie Herrell Lee, second runner-up was Jenny Vhet Zabaje, third runner-up was Dannika Annocampo, and Diana Nelson was fourth runner-up. – (FREEMAN)
