CEBU, Philippines - The wife of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez passed away at around 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
She was 72.
Jovita Fernandez was rushed to the South General Hospital in the City of Naga last month for pneumonia. According to a source, she had to undergo blood transfusion after suffering from severe anemia while at the hospital. She was, however, discharged later on.
Her only son, Joavan, however, took her to Miller Hospital in Cebu City late last month after she complained of the same problem. This time she was taken to the intensive care unit where she died.
Yolly Rapana, former staff of Mayor Fernandez, said Mrs. Fernandez, before she got ill, played a big part in the mayor’s life, acting as his personal assistant who reminded him of his schedules by calling his office from time to time, and was a devoted housewife, who cooked his meals and prepared his clothes.
The couple did not employ a helper until Jovita fell very ill. – (FREEMAN)
