Talisay to send notice to crematorium builder

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City Engineer’s Office will send a notice of illegal construction to Golden Eye Inc., the company which allegedly intends to operate a crematorium inside a private property in barangay Dumlog.

City Engineer Audie Bacasmas yesterday said the building, which stands in the middle of a private property, lacks a permit, and no application for the construction of the building has been received by his office until now.

The building has been under construction for almost four months.

“So far, wala ta’y nadawat nga application gikan nila,” Bacasmas said.

Residents in barangay Dumlog have raised apprehensions over a looming crematorium, citing health and environmental issues as some of the reasons why residents oppose the construction.

Also, it was found out that the crematorium building has no permit.

According to Bacasmas, the owner of Golden Eye Inc., Dr. Andrew Quijano, will be meted with penalty for the violation.

Talisay City Vice Mayor Alan Bucao yesterday reminded businessmen who wish to put up a business in the city to follow existing laws especially in obtaining clearances from the government.

Bucao said he will study the possibility of increasing the penalties for operators or contractors who build without securing permits.

“Let us review our penalties,” Bucao said.

Bucao wants to increase the penalty from P50,000 to P100,000.

Bucao already ordered the committees on infrastructure and health and the City Engineering Office to investigate the matter.

The developer had already acquired a Certificate of Non-Coverage, which negates the need for the issuance of an ECC. (FREEMAN)
