Boy, 16, arrested after “rape try” on girl, 17

CEBU, Philippines - A 16-year-old boy from Negros Oriental was arrested for the alleged attempt to rape a 17-year-old girl after attending a disco in barangay Babag, Cebu City Sunday dawn.

PO2 Edilberto Gabucan Jr. of the Cebu City police said the juvenile, who works at a certain plantation in Cebu as a laborer/farmer, was arrested after a day of shadowing by the police.

He is considered the sixth suspect in the case. The boy denied involvement saying he was at a disco with his employer when the incident happened. He claimed he went home at 5 in the morning.

The girl said she was on her way home on foot from the disco at around 3 o’clock in the morning when a boy grabbed her arm and dragged her to a darker side of the road, which she presumed was near the barangay hall.         She said she is sure it was this juvenile who attacked her.

After the incident, the girl went back to the disco to look for a friend.

Accompanied by her mother and aunt, the girl and her friend reported the incident to the Cebu City police on the same day.

The girl’s mother said she is sorry it happened to her daughter but thankful justice is within grasp.

The police found a sheath in the suspect’s house which perfectly fits the knife found near the crime scene.        According to the arresting officer, the evidence will help a lot in solving the case.

Policemen said an attempted rape will be filed against the juvenile who is currently being investigated at the Cebu City Police Office.  (FREEMAN)
