Eddiegul belittles opposition’s boast

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - For veteran politician first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas, party affiliations cannot guarantee victory at the polls in 2013.

“It is every party’s desires to have the majority but nobody, neither the administration nor opposition, can answer that,” said Gullas, who is on his third and last term as district representative in the first district.

It will be a two-cornered fight for the mayoralty post in Talisay with Gullas, a Nacionalista Party member, vies to regain the post he held in 2004.

He will be challenged by Liberal party candidate Johnny V. Delos Reyes (JVR).

Delos Reyes said he would have the best fighting chance against Gullas.

JVR’s running-mate is incumbent city councilor Romeo Villarante, who is a lawyer.

They said that despite being the underdog, they are confident of getting the majority at the city council.

Currently, the city council is dominated by administration councilors who are allied with Gullas.

The opposition is comprised of councilors Danilo “Danny” Caballero, Valeriano “Val” Ylanan, and Villarante.

But Gullas brushed aside the opposition’s boast.

“Ang makatubag niana ang mga tawo ra gyud sa Talisay. Ato nang mahibaw-an inig human sa eleksyon,” Gullas said.

Gullas said his lineup will work and campaign hard to win in the election.

Gullas reminded Ylanan that the Alayon party where he belonged before shifting to another party, had helped him in the last 2010.

He also said that Villarante and Caballero wanted to join Alayon in 2010 but were not accommodated because the slots were already filled up.

The city council in Talisay City has 10-sitting members, with two ex-officio, one representing the youth and another the barangay captains.  (FREEMAN)
