CEBU, Philippines - Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has delivered 5,000 bags of cement to the Talisay City government that will be used to complete the seawall project in barangay Tangke, which was destroyed recently by strong waves generated by Typhoon Gener.

Barangay Dumlog captain and Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) president Charles Basillote received the  items from the governor last October 2.

According to Basillote, the items, as he had requested, will be used to complete the seawall project in sitios Lawis and Ratan in barangay Tangke.

Basillote thanked the governor saying that Garcia was also responsible for the one-kilometer seawall project in barangay Dumlog, which is already finished.

Last July, Basillote informed hundreds of families in coastal barangays in the city to evacuate due to the big waves spawned by typhoon Gener.

The seawall has already been restored by the city government.

Garcia was accompanied by her brother, third district Representative Pablo John “PJ” Garcia and former Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV.

Gov. Garcia also turned over P2.6 million in financial assistance to the city.

Of the amount, P1 million will go to the rehabilitation of classrooms and other structures, P800,000 is intended for the construction of a senior citizen’s building, P500,000 for the Talisay Landing Liberation activities, and P300,000 for the legislative library.

The amount was received by Mayor Socrates Fernandez, Allan Bucao, and city councilors during a short program held at the city gym attended by barangay health workers, Day Care workers, members of women’s associations, farmers, and senior citizens.

Nine of the 22 barangays also received their respective financial aid from Provincial Board Members Julian Daan and Sergio Restauro.

First district Rep. Eduardo “Eddiegul” was not around but his grandson Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. joined the Garcias.

Samsam assured the Garcias of an all out support from the Gullases.

Basillote, who got a multicab and P100,000 for socio-cultural activities for his barangay’s fiesta celebration this month, echoed Samsam’s pronouncement.

Gov. Garcia also signed a memorandum of agreement with members of a women’s organization in Talisay for the launching of Bugasan sa Kababayen-an program of the Capitol.

Ten sacks of rice were turned over as initial capital for their livelihood project.

PhilHealth insurance cards for 4,644 beneficiaries in the city, Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (PCIC) group accident insurance for health workers, Day Care workers, and barangay officials were also distributed. – (FREEMAN)
