In Minglanilla massive drive versus dengue begins today
CEBU, Philippines - Minglanilla is waging an all-out war against dengue following recent findings that the southern town has the most number of dengue cases in Cebu Province.
According to the Regional Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (RESU), there are 143 cases and one death in the town.
“The Municipality of Minglanilla has been considered as top mother of Dengue patients of the Province of Cebu. It is for this reason that the local government unit through some different sectors are collaborating in waging war against this epidemic outbreak,” said Councilor Robert John Selma.
Selma, chairperson of the town council’s committee on health, said a dengue awareness caravan will be undertaken today, which will include a clean-up drive and fogging operation in all barangays in the town. The clean-up aims to eradicate breeding sites. Dengue-carrying mosquitoes breed in clear stagnant water such as the water trapped in flower vases, cans, rain barrels and old rubber tires.
Selma said today’s activity will be participated in by volunteers from the business, religious and industrial sectors and even socio-civic organizations like Rotary International.
Selma is optimistic that the campaign will be successful with the cooperation of all residents, but emphasized that the fight needs to be sustained and even made into a habit. /JMO (FREEMAN)
