Lapu-Lapu ready for any calamity

CEBU, Philippines - City hall employees and officials as well as barangay officials recently underwent training and attended a seminar in anticipation of disasters such as typhoons.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza wants members of the City Disaster and Risk Reduction and Management Council to be always prepared for disasters.

“Nahibawo na ang atong mga barangay captain sa ilang angayan nga buhaton kon adunay bagyo ug kusog nga pag-uwan, ilabi na gayud ang pagseguro nga luwas ang mga katawhan,” she said.

Radaza also said the city has an understanding with school officials that in emergency cases, the classrooms will serve as evacuation centers.

Aside from classrooms, gymnasiums in barangays readily open to evacuees, she said. — Jose P. Sollano (FREEMAN)
