1 dies, 3 hurt in vehicular accident in Lapu-Lapu

CEBU, Philippines - One died and three others were seriously injured in a vehicular accident in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City shortly before noontime yesterday.

Relle Niña Saladaga, 25, a staff of Swiss Sense Worldwide Inc., located at Cebu Light Industrial Park at Maximo Patalinjug Avenue in barangay Basak died in hospital a few minutes after she was taken there.

Saladaga was on a motorcycle driven by Ramil Comcom, 22, of Catmon, Cebu, a contractual worker of Swiss Sense Worldwide Inc.

Just after leaving the company, Comcom tried to cross the street heading towards the city proper when it collided with a tricycle coming from the city proper heading towards barangay Marigondon.

The tricycle was driven by Jilbert Cabalhug, 31, of barangay Bangkal, who also sustained serious injuries.

Saladaga was thrown a few meters away due to the impact and landed on the pavement, incurring serious injuries in the different parts of her body.

She was immediately brought to Mactan Doctors Hospital.

Comcom and his motorcycle were also hit by a truck.

The truck, bearing plate no. YKP 677, was driven by Cosme Item, 52, who resides in Urgello St., Cebu City, and works for Worldwide Steel Corporation, which is located in Mandaue City.

Item is now under the custody of the Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Division.

Cabalhug’s tricycle turned upside down after colliding with Comcom’s motorcycle.

Cabalhug’s passenger, identified as Evelyn Toloneo, of barangay Pajac, a production worker of Maple in MEPZ 1, suffered serious injuries and was taken by an ambulance to the Cebu City Hospital.
