Work at foot of Fernan bridge in Mandaue begins

CEBU, Philippines - Traffic was normal when the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-7 started its work at the foot of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge yesterday morning.

One lane was closed at the U.N. Avenue starting from the foot of the bridge up to Plaridel Street.

The two lanes from corner Plaridel St. and U.N. Avenue going to Lapu-Lapu City are still open to vehicular traffic.

Only the lane from Lapu-Lapu City going to Mandaue was a bit congested from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

However, Mandaue City’s Traffic Enforcement and Management (TEAM) director Erwin Ermac yesterday said traffic at the bridge was normal the fact yesterday was a holiday.

Ermac said traffic congestion might be felt in the upcoming days when classes and work resume.

The road rehabilitation project has a total cost of  P28,474,598 and DPWH has decided to have the road repairs along UN avenue after several traffic accidents had occurred in the area due to the potholes.
