Work awaits MCCTEST grads

CEBU, Philippines - Companies in Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu cities offer jobs to graduates of Mandaue City College Technological, Entrepreneurial, Skills Training (MCCTEST) Center.

While they are still in their respective crash courses, some of them are assured of work by companies, Evengeline Manalili, officer in charge of the center, said.

The MCCTEST Center is not the technical vocational department of the Mandaue City College.

Manalili said of the 230 students who shall graduate this Friday at the Mandaue Sports Complex, majority are already assured of jobs, adding the rest are ready to start their own business.

According to Manalili, majority of the 39 graduating students of automotive mechanic will be absorbed by the Mandaue-based D’ Strong Motor Group of Companies while the rest will find employment in JRA Surplus, Sendai Motors, SMC, and Norkis Group of Companies all located in Mandaue City.

On the other hand, graduating students of Commercial Cooking will further enhance their skills by having an on-the-job training at Shangri-La Resort Hotel, the rest in Imperial Hotel all in Lapu-Lapu City.

Students of High Speed Industrial Sewing Machine Operation (ISMO) are also assured of jobs by companies at the Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ) particularly Metro Ware.

With P500 to be spent for accident insurance, identification card, certificates and uniform, one can enroll in 3-month courses such as in automatic mechanic, refrigeration and air-conditioning, reflexology, industrial sewing machine operation, food and meat processing, commercial cooking, baking and pastries, dressmaking, draperies and curtains, computer literacy with basic hardware servicing and cosmetology.
