Talisay's opposition unhappy with Tiu's decision to join Gullas

CEBU, Philippines - The opposition leaders in Talisay City are unhappy by the shift made by former mayor Delia Tiu to the camp of first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas for the mid-term elections next year.

Talisay City Councilor Romeo Villarante, who is one of the three opposition members in the city council, said he is saddened by Tiu’s sudden transfer to other camp.

Villarante, however, said the shift of alliance will not be totally disadvantageous to the opposition.

“Its a plus-minus situation. We will exploit the difference,” Villarante told The Freeman, adding that Tiu’s supporters are displeased with the development.

Villarante also claimed the opposition will become stronger now that only few political leaders in the city are genuinely committed for change.

“On the contrary, this will make the opposition stronger, as only those who are genuinely committed for change would be left,” Villarante said.

Gullas and Tiu met in the house of the former mayor and agreed to join forces.

During the meeting, they both agreed to reconcile for the sake of unity in the city.

The meeting was also attended by Gullas’ eldest grandson, Gerard Anthony “Samsam” Gullas.

The elder Gullas will run for mayor of Talisay City next year while Samsam expressed his intention to run for the first congressional district seat to replace his grandfather, who is on his last term.

In exchange for supporting Samsam’s congressional bid and Eddiegul’s mayoralty bid, Rep. Gullas will include Tiu’s younger brother, Jojo Bacaltos, in his lineup of city councilors. - THE FREEMAN
