TEAM asks for extension of truck ban, rerouting scheme
CEBU, Philippines - The Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) has asked the city council for an extension of the dry run of the truck ban and rerouting of public utility jeepneys and tricycles for 60 days more.
TEAM executive director Eutiquio Sanchez, in his letter to the city council, said TEAM’s report on the results of the ban and rerouting had been sent to the council. An extension would be needed while the council scrutinizes the report.
Edwin Ermac, TEAM chief for operations, told The Freeman that if allowed, the extension will start on July 24 and end on September 24.
As stated by a Mandaue City Council resolution, trucks weighing at least 4,500 kilograms are prohibited to enter the city’s major thoroughfares from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., except on Sundays and holidays.
Exempted from the ban are ambulances and trucks carrying perishable items.
Ermac said the truck ban is aimed at minimizing traffic during the peak hours, as trucks have been observed to contribute greatly to the problem. (FREEMAN)
