Talisay addressing vendors' concerns

- Garry B. Lao - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Edward Alesna, chairman of the committee on market and slaughterhouse, yesterday said the concerns of vendors at the new public market are being addressed one at a time.

Rep. Eduardo Gullas has also created a panel that will help vendors improve their circumstance.

In an interview with reporters, Alesna said the presence of satellite markets in other barangays compete with the new market.

“We will regulate these satellite markets,” Alesna said.

But city administrator Ritchel Bacaltos said they have no plans to close down these small markets since these have been in existence even before the Lagtang market was opened to the public.

Bacaltos said what the city can do is prevent the satellite markets from expanding.

Meanwhile, the city council already approved to change the name of the new market in Barangay Lagtang from the Gullas-Macapagal Public Market to the New Talisay Public Market.

Councilor Eduardo “Digul” Gullas III said the resolution aims to return the New Talisay City Public Market to city residents.

The new facility was built as a collaboration between his grandfather, Rep. Gullas and former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Digul said. - THE FREEMAN
