"Drug pusher" denied bail

- The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - A suspected drug pusher who was arrested by the police in Talisay City Sunday cannot post bail after the drugs seized from him weighed 10.5 grams, Talisay City police chief Eddie Recamara said.

A case for Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 was filed against Albert “Apar” Salem, of sitio Galaxy, barangay Tanke, Talisay City, yesterday afternoon in the Municipal Trial Court in Talisay City.

Recamara said the shabu seized from Salem weighed 10.5 grams and the law says an accused cannot post bail if shabu confiscated from him weighed more than five grams.

Also recovered during the search were drug paraphernalia and a dismantled caliber .45 pistol and a magazine with one bullet in it.

Lawyer Eugen Sumambong, who represents Salem, said he will contest the search warrant served by the police. — Ria Mae Y. Booc with reports from Brenda Batuto Of Banat News (THE FREEMAN)
