Student, family driver arrested for drug possession

CEBU, Philippines - A man was arrested near a beach resort in barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City for possession of shabu during a buy-bust operation Monday evening while a student of a university in Mandaue City was also arrested for possession of shabu on the same night.

Edgar Diaz, of legal age of barangay Balirong, Naga City, who makes a living as a family driver was arrested by a team led by PSr./Insp .Rogelio Pineda, the chief of the Intelligence Branch of the Lapu-Lapu City Police (LLCP) at around 10 pm last Monday.

Diaz was arrested after turning over the shabu to a poseur buyer in exchange for the agreed prize of P80,000.

The money used in the transaction was nothing but pieces of paper except for a P1,000-bill placed on top of the heap.

Police said was under surveillance for two weeks.

Diaz is now detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.

In another development, a 22-year-old Marine Engineering student of the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu-Mandaue (UC-LM) was arrested police in Mandaue City Monday evening near his school.

According to Opao police station chief PSr./Insp. Stephen Amamag-id, the student was arrested after he was caught by a roving police patrol car showing a sachet containing a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu to a classmate.

The suspect is now detained at the Opao police station. - THE FREEMAN
