VM Bucao proposes integration of traffic education in curriculum

- Garry B. Lao - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Vice Mayor Alan Bucao, chairman on Traffic Management and Public Utilities, has asked the Department of Education to include traffic education in the school curriculum.

In a proposed resolution No. 2012–21-6, Bucao said through this lesson, children will learn traffic rules and regulations, the meaning of road signs, accident prevention tips, and cam put to use their knowledge in practice.

“Traffic education is essential for equipping children and the youth sufficiently to become safe road users. It is very important for every age group and must start right from primary schools and secondary schools,” Bucao said.

At today’s regular session, the proposal will be taken up and the council will vote for or against it.

Bucao also said it’s time for young people to learn the safety measures involving traffic.

Citing statistics, Bucao said most traffic violations have been caused by lack of knowledge on traffic rules and signs among drivers and traffic enforcers.

He said even traffic policemen now need to undergo regular seminars on traffic enforcement and management to help them become efficient in the performance of their duties.

“It is this august body’s desire to make the rules known to children and the youth and motivate each individual to follow traffic rules and regulations to have a safe, smooth traffic flow as possible in the city,” Bucao said.
