Man who killed neighbor surrenders
CEBU, Philippines - A man who stabbed his neighbor to death surrendered voluntarily to the Subangdaku Police shortly after the incident that happened early dawn yesterday.
In an interview, the suspect, Jonry Yaun, 28, said he was forced to stab the victim, Jason Armada, 30, because he got irked when the latter punched him on the face without apparent reason.
“Mura’g nayawaan nako nga wa koy sala nga gisumbag,unya iya pa kong gigukod og kutsilyo mao tong pagkailog nako wa nako kabalo kapila nako siya dunggaba (It was as if I was possessed. He punched him without reason and then chased me with a knife. When I was able to grab the knife from him, I stabbed him stabbed several times that I lost count),” Yaun said.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. in Lower Malibu, Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
Before the incident, Yaun was drinking with his grandfather while Armada was drinking with his friends at a separate table at the basketball court in the barangay.
Yaun said that around 2 a.m., he and his friends decided to bring Armada home because the latter was already drunk. Afterwards, while Yaun talking to another friend, Armada reportedly appeared and punched him on the face. Yaun said Armada also uttered harsh words against him.
Yaun said a fistfight ensued and Armada chased him with a knife, which Yaun subsequently grabbed and stabbed the victim with. Armada incurred wounds in different parts of his body.
Yaun said he surrendered to the Subangdaku Police immediately after the incident. He is currently detained while awaiting the filing of charges. - THE FREEMAN
