Man, 30, drowns at beach resort

CEBU, Philippines - A 30-year-old man, allegedly under the influence of liquor, drowned at a beach in barangay Mactan,Lapu-Lapu City Thursday night.

Irineo Tirol, 30, single, of barangay Day-as, Cordova town was taken to the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

This is the second drowning incident this month to have happened at the beach resort.

A student from Cebu City also drowned there while celebrating a cousin’s birthday.

Police said Tirol went to the beach with some co-workers allegedly to have fun.

After drinking, some, including Tirol, went for a swim. A few minutes, Tirol was found floating and unconscious at around 9 p.m., police said.

Police said beach watchers took Tirol out of the water and the beach’s nurse tried to revive Tirol before ERUF paramedics arrived.
