Japanese national, 67, found dead in his condo

CEBU, Philippines - A 67-year-old Japanese national was found dead inside his condominium unit shortly after midday yesterday at the Garnet Place Building in barangay Cabangcalan, Mandaue City.

Foul odor from Room 302 at the third floor of the building led to the discovery of Fujita Mitsuo, who is from Hyogo, Japan.

PO1 Renato Canja, of the Police Station 4 in barangay Maguikay, said the secretary of the building, Marivic Pielago, reported the incident to the police station at around 12:30 in the afternoon.

Canja said Mitsuo, who was alone in the room, was last seen in the morning of May 28 emerging from his room.

He always went out of the room in the morning as his routine so when he was not seen by the building personnel for two days they started to wonder.

Building personnel tried to knock on the door to check on Mitsuo at around 12:00 noon but received no reply.

Several jalousie blades of a window were taken out to gain entry into the room.

Mitsuo was already in a state of decomposition when found sprawled on the floor inside the comfort room.

Police found no signs that would indicate foul play was involved in the death of the Japanese.

Mitsuo was still in his short pants and a bath towel on his shoulders, which police believe that the man was about to take a bath.

Pielago said Mitsuo had been staying in the building since 2009. He was a pensioner.

Mitsuo’s passport is now with the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO).

His body now lies at the Rolling Hills Memorial Homes along A.S. Fortuna, Mandaue City. — (FREEMAN)
