Naga, Apo Cemex Phils, Gawad Kalinga sign MOA for socialized housing project
CEBU, Philippines - The City of Naga, Gawad Kalinga (GK), and Apo Cemex Phils. entered into a memorandum of agreement yesterday morning for the city’s first socialized housing project.
Mayor Valdemar Chiong said at least 100 homeless families or those living in Naga’s flood-prone areas will benefit from the contract.
Under the contract, Apo Cemex will donate 18,000 square meters of its property in barangay Tinaan, while GK will build houses in the area.
Naga will construct roadways, drainage systems, and other facilities for this new community.
Chiong said construction will start within this year so that by next year the beneficiaries, to be chosen by GK, can already transfer to their new homes.
The contract was signed yesterday at Naga’s multi-purpose hall by Chiong for the city, Jerome Awit for GK, and Ma. Virginia Eala for Apo Cemex. - THE FREEMAN
