New warden to foil any more getaway

CEBU, Philippines - Newly installed warden of the Mandaue City Jail Chief/Insp. Gil Inopia, apprehensive that the latest jailbreak could spawn copycats, has promised to amend some existing policies.Inopia said, for a start, escorts will remain with prisoners during hearings.

He said that after the hearings, both inmates and escorts will proceed together to the van that will take them back to the jail.

Inmate Ricky Andujar escaped Tuesday from escorts while waiting for the van to arrive.

The van had taken a prisoner to the Mandaue City Hospital.

While they were waiting, Andujar slid his hands from his shackles and escaped.

“Nadakpan na nang bataa kausa didto sa barangay Binaliw Cebu City apan nake-eskapo dyapon na didto maoy ingon sa among nahinabi nga tanod kay homok daw na og kamot bataa busa daling mahaplos iyang kamot sa posas” Inopia said.

Andujar, who faces cases for robbery and illegal possession of firearms, continue to elude police, Inopia said. (FREEMAN)
