4 injured as coconut tree falls on jeepney

CEBU, Philippines - Four persons were injured when a coconut tree fell Wednesday on a passenger jeepney along the national highway in barangay Jubay, Liloan town.

The injured passengers who were taken to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City were identified as Mirabel Andales, 19, of Lapu-lapu City; Malou Villamor, 31, of San Antonio, barangay Jubay; Archie Tahanlangit, 32, of barangay Cotcot; and Fe Pastoran, 54, of Liloan.

The driver of the Suzuki passenger jeepney, Wilfredo Pepito Maroliña, 48, of barangay Lataban, was unharmed.

Police investigation disclosed that the jeepney was bound for south.

It stopped for a while to pick up a passenger, but before it left the area the coconut tree collapsed on it. — (FREEMAN)
