CEBU, Philippines - A farmer was allegedly shot dead Monday evening by a barangay councilman in the mountain barangay of Upper Bugho, San Fernando.
Marcos Genon, 44, married, succumbed to a gunshot wound on the right portion of the body.
His attacker, Heracleo Pacquiao, 50, a neighbor, faces charges of homicide.
Genon was taken to the Carcar City District Hospital but was declared dead.
San Fernando police investigator SPO4 Ruben Reynes said prior to the incident Genon, brother of the wife of Pacquiao allegedly went to the latter’s house, nagging.
“Ang ingon ngano kuno dili na siya tagdon mura’g ingon ana dunay kahiubos,” Reynes said.
Pacquiao woke up and confronted Genon.
Reynes said that according to Pacquiao’s family, it was Genon who drew a revolver but Pacquiao allegedly grabbed the revolver from Genon and shot him once.
Their neighbor, Anastacia Reponte, reportedly heard successive bursts of gunfire at around 8:00 in the evening but she did not go outside of the house due to fear.
Recovered in the scene were three empty shells of unknown caliber of revolver.
The body was discovered at 4:00 in the morning on Tuesday by Nestor Tausa, a motorcycle-for-hire driver, who passed by the area.
Tausa then informed barangay captain Pedro Sebial who in turn called the police station.
It was around 10:30 in the morning last Tuesday when Pacquiao decided to surrender to Sebial, and turned over a revolver. — (FREEMAN)
