Where do the spare parts come from?

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - A police official would like to think that spare parts being sold along sidewalks in barangays Guizo and Mantuyong in Mandaue City come from stolen motorcycles that have been taken apart.

Theft and Robbery Section chief P/Insp. Ramil Morpos said information indicates that stolen motorcycles are being disassembled and the vendors serve as fence for the parts.

Soon Morpos will investigate to find out if the sellers are legitimate traders complete with business permits.

He thinks regulating the sale of these spare parts would curb the theft of motorcycles.

He said owners should be careful where they park their motorcycles.

Motorcycle thieves will steal again after serving time, while others post bail and steal again, Morpos said.

Last Friday noon, Arnel Escalada, 29, married, and a resident of barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City lost his motorcycle while it was parked in front of his work place along M. C. Briones highway.
