Woman doing fine after giving birth to triplets

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - A 29-year-old woman from sitio Toril in barangay Tingub, Mandaue City who gave birth to triplets, a boy and two girls, last May 3 at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center is in the best of health.Maricel Ygoña and her husband Ricky named their triplets “Ricky Jr.” and the girls “Rihanna” and “Richie.”

They now have five children. The first two are aged eight and ten years old.

Ricky Jr., who weighed 2.2 kilos, was delivered normally, while Rihanna and Richie, each weighing 2.2 kilos, were delivered by caesarean section.

The mother and her newly born children were allowed to go home only on Thursday afternoon since the triplets had to spend three days in the nursery.

The triplets were in good health yesterday when Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede came to visit them.

Maricel’s husband however was on his way back to Qatar earlier that day. He worked in that country in 2009 as a painter and was going back there to work again.

Through ultrasound, she said she then knew while she was still five months pregnant she would have triplets.

Maricel said the triplets bring happiness to the family but she has a feeling she can’t sustain the children’s needs because her husband only earns P12,000 a month, half of it will go to the agency as payment for the loan they took for placement fee.

Bercede yesterday took P1,500 from his own pocket and gave it as assistance to Maricel.

On Wednesday, Bercede will ask the city council for advice on how to help the family. (FREEMAN)
