Woman dies, husband hurt in mishap in Linao

CEBU, Philippines - A 41-year-old woman was crashed to death while her husband was injured after a 10-wheeler truck ran over the motorcycle they were riding in at past 4 p.m. Tuesday along the highway of barangay Linao, Talisay City.

Police identified the casualty as Thelma Lauronal, while her husband Emilito, 46, who was driving the motorcycle (7564-GO) narrowly escaped death after he swerved his vehicle from the truck’s huge wheels.

Danilo Paraguso Villasencio, 41, of barangay Bakay, Toledo City and driver of the truck with plate number RKN-136, was immediately apprehended and detained at the Talisay City Police Station.

Based on the investigation of the traffic police, the couple was on their way home to barangay Lantawan in San Fernando town.

Upon reaching the highway of barangay Linao, a huge truck, which was moving toward the same direction, suddenly sideswept the motorcycle.

PO1 Mario Cartuciano of the Talisay City Police Traffic Division said the impact sent the motorcycle to one side and hit a multicab driven by one Nilo Gemongala Niral, 30.

The motorcycle bounced, hit the same truck again, and then landed underneath it.

Cartuciano said Villasencio will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and injury, and damage to property. – (FREEMAN)
