Girl, 9, accuses man, 61, of rape

CEBU, Philippines - A 61-year-old man was arrested Monday evening after he was accused of rape by a nine-year-old neighbor in barangay Uling, City of Naga.

The girl claimed Leonides Canonigo, 61, single, a resident of the place, abused her.

SPO2 Ian Quetayen of the Naga City Police Station said girl’s parents arrested Canonigo shortly after learning about the incident, and turned him over to the police.

Based on the initial investigation of the police, the girl earlier that day was on her way to a convenience store to buy something when Canonigo invited her to his house.

Upon her return to her own house, her parents noticed kiss marks on her chest and that she complained of pain on her private part. The girl said the old man had touched her.

She was then taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center’s Pink Room for medical tests. Canonigo is being detained at the NCPS pending the filing of charges against him. — (FREEMAN)
