Mandaue, Borbon agree to forge ties

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and Borbon town Mayor Bernardo Sepulveda yesterday signed at the session hall a memorandum of understanding for a sisterhood pact.

But first Mandaue and Borbon will have to come up with a draft before signing a pact.

Cortes, in his speech, said it is unusual for a highly urbanized city to forge ties with a town as small as Borbon.

But he said the town apparently has a lot of things to offer.

In return, Mandaue will help Borbon residents find jobs in the city.

The two mayors have since been good friends.

Borbon town has a population of 28,751 while Mandaue has a population of 348,000.
