Talisay, Mitsumi forge ties for jobs, skills training

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City has tied up with Danao City’s Mitsumi Phils. Inc. for skills training and job opportunities of its hundreds of high school graduates.

The tie-up was made official when Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, University of the Visayas’s assistant vice president for administration and finance, urged the city’s 22 barangay chiefs during a meeting last Friday to bring their unemployed constituents to the various screening events.

Gullas, 27, said this “opportunity” will not only provide jobs for the youth, but will eventually lead to a better future for them and for Talisay as well.

Melvin Jabin, of Mitsumi’s Human Resource, said the company will need as many female applicants as possible, who will be hired as on-the-job trainees for the next two to three years.

While they’ll learn electronics assembling, they will be paid 75 percent of the current minimum wage, he said.

City Councilor Bernard Odilao, who initiated the tie-up, said they hope to gather unemployed high school graduates, aged 18 to 30 in Talisay.

Schedules for the screening and examinations of applicants in the barangays have been set.

Barangays Poblacion, Cansojong, San Roque, and Tanke are the first on the list, with May 12 as their schedule, and the Talisay City Sports Complex as the venue.

Barangays Jaclupan, Camp 4 and 5 will be on May 25,; while Tabunok and Lagtang are scheduled on June 8.

San Isidro and Dumlog, June 16; Lawaan 1, 2 and 3 will be on June 22.

June 30 will be for Biasong, Pooc, and Mohon; while July 6 is slated for Linao, Maghaway, and Tapul. July 13 will be for Bulacao and Candulawan.
