Engineer: There's nothing wrong with Butuanon Bridge

CEBU, Philippines - In response to allegations that the Butuanon Bridge along the M. C. Briones highway in Mandaue City shakes, sixth district Engineer Santiago Suico allayed fears yesterday by telling reporters that the DPWH has inspected it and has confirmed that it is structurally safe.

Santiago said vehicles are not allowed to stop in the middle of the bridge because its capacity is only 20 tons.

Santiago said the bridge is designed for moving vehicles and delivery vans are not allowed to remain in the bridge during traffic jams.

“Gi-design man gud ang bridge nga flowing, if mag-over capacity posible magkaproblema na unya kon mo-crack kay sagad mupondo diha big truck unya ang capacity niana 20 tons ra,” Suico said.

Meanwhile, Suico also said he hopes the national agency will release the funds for the repair of the Maguikay fly-over.

Suico said that just like the Fernan bridge, damaged expansion joints is also the problem suffered by the Maguikay fly-over.
