Japanese philanthropist donates used clothing in islet in Lapu-Lapu

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - More than 300 families in the islet barangay of Pangan-an in Lapu-Lapu City received used clothing from a Japanese-based foundation.

Children also received chocolates from Takayuki Murata, founder and coordinator of JYPKO Foundation, Inc. who was welcomed by officials headed by Councilor Naldo Sumalinog.

Barangay Pangan-an captain Virgilio Casiao was at a meeting with lone district Rep. Arturo O. Radaza and missed meeting with Murata.

Murata also distributed long t-shirts to fishermen.

“Nahibawo ko nga daghan na gayud kaayo sa atong mga kaigsoonan sa barangay ang nanginahanglan og tabang,” said Murata in Cebuano.

Sometime in the 1990s, Murata put up a foundation with the support and cooperation of the city of Lapu-Lapu during the administration of the late mayor Ernest Weigel, Jr. but became inactive for several years until Murata revived it.

Murata promised to visit Pangan-an again with more used clothing.

He also promised to bring school supplies next time.
