Talisay's abattoir earns another double-A rating
CEBU, Philippines - For the seventh consecutive year, Talisay City’s modern slaughterhouse in barangay Biasong has again earned a double-A standard from the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS).
City administrator Richel Bacaltos, in an interview, said that last April 26 and 27, the inspection team led by Dr. Jonathan Sabeniano of NMIS Region 1 together with Dr. Isagani Rodrigo of National Capital Region visited the abattoir and were “impressed by our operations.”
Bacaltos said the slaughterhouse has always been accredited with the double-A standard since it started operation seven years ago, which means its products can be distributed for consumption all over the country.
Reports about dogs being kept inside the slaughterhouse premises were never an issue, Bacaltos said.
He said the reports in the first place were untrue.
What the inspection team had noticed were “very minor,” such as the lack of lighting in some areas, which can be easily corrected, he said.
The city’s current accreditation, which was issued last year, is yet to expire this month (May), but Bacaltos said the NMIS always sends its men at least a month before the expiry date. (FREEMAN)
