Tanod accused of rape of girl, 12

CEBU, Philippines - A barangay tanod was arrested for the alleged rape of a 12-year-old distant relative in Purok Lemonsito in barangay Umapad, Mandaue City.

Benjamin Ranile, 42, married, and a tanod of barangay Umapad, Mandaue City was found Friday by the police at his uncle’s house in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.

Basak police station chief P/Insp. Stephen Amamag-id said the girl was raped thrice before she related her ordeal to her sister-in-law Friday afternoon.

The girl said Ranile would often invite her to his residence when he is alone. She said he would give her P100.

Last Friday afternoon, the sister-in-law noticed that the girl was uneasy. After being asked what was wrong with her, the girl then told her everything. Moments after, they went to the police.

Ranile was not at home when the police came.

With the help of barangay Umapad captain Nelson Rubio, the police found Ranile at his uncle’s house in Lapu-Lapu City.

He is now detained at the Basak police station pending the filing of a rape case against him.  (FREEMAN)
