Airport security to be tightened

CEBU, Philippines -  Security at the Mactan Cebu International Airport will be beefed up starting tomorrow as the Department of Transportation and Communication-MCIAA puts “Oplan Ligtas Kwaresma” in motion.

The Public Affairs Division of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport said information counters will also serve as help desks for airport passengers.

Maryann Dimabayao, officer-in-charge of the MCIAA Public Affairs Division, said the help desks will be manned by personnel from public affairs department, medical staff, and airport police.

Dimabayao said MCIAA general manager Nigel Paul Villarete has also ordered all airport police, engineering personnel, and janitors to be prepared at all times for any eventuality.

Managers have also been directed to monitor the deployment of all employees, especially the airport police.

DOTC, under the leadership of Secretary Mar Roxas, provides convenient, affordable, reliable, efficient and safe and secure transportation system nationwide.

During times when there’s big increase in volume of passenger movement nationwide especially during All Saints’ Day, Christmas, and Holy Week, DOTC makes sure passengers are not inconvenienced.

In Lapu-Lapu City, barangay tanods and the tourist police will be in barangays where tourists congregate.

Lapu-Lapu City acting police chief Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas said that instead of requesting for more police personnel from the Police Regional Office-7, he will tap barangay tanods and the tourist police. – (FREEMAN)
