Organizers hope ERT contest will draw more barangays next year

CEBU, Philippines - Organizers of the Emergency Response Team competition hope that all barangays in Lapu-Lapu City would participate in next year’s contest.

Col. Nestor Bontol of Lexmark International Philippines, Inc., vice president of Mactan Economic Zone Safety and Security Council, Inc., said last Saturday’s competition drew locators inside at the Mactan Export Zone in Lapu-Lapu City but only three of the 30 barangays in the city joined.

Bontol hopes that by next year more barangays will join the competition.

He said the ERT competition is not only for competition is not only to display ones skills but also to prove that barangays have coordination and cooperation during emergency cases.

He further said ERT organizers are willing to strengthen the Barangay Disaster Teams through the Bureau of Fire and Protection.
