CEBU, Philippines - With an eye on a rabies-free city by 2013, the city veterinary office sent personnel to the 27 barangays in Mandaue City and vaccinated 8,475 dogs and 81cats.
City veterinarian Dr. Daisy Penetrante said her office continues to conduct an awareness and dog registration campaign in the city.
She said that in the months to come, her office will again visit barangays to record new born pets.
Since vaccination has been done, Penetrante said her only concern now are the stray dogs.
She said the impounding campaign has been stopped due to the non-availability of a vehicle.
However, the Mayor’s Office has appropriated P800,000 for the purchase of a new vehicle.
She also her office is glad to hear that the Melinda Gates Foundation through the Department of Health Regional Office recently donated 200 anti-rabies vials.
One vial is good for ten dogs. (FREEMAN)
