Family man climbs post, threatens to kill himself

CEBU, Philippines - A family man, worried over lack of money, climbed a lamppost yesterday morning that stood on the lane divider in barangay Guizo in Mandaue City where he allegedly would jump off to kill himself.

Ronell Agsoy, 30, of sitio Tubigan in barangay Santikan in Danao City, who has two children, went up the lamppost at around 9:45 and minutes later the SWAT and the Mobile Patrol Group persuaded him to come down. He was taken to the Centro Police station. 

PO1 Ariel Gingko of the Centro Police station said the man was in a quandary as to where to get the money for his son’s continued confinement at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for fractured bones on his legs. 

The son figured in an accident while riding a bicycle.

Ginko also said Agsoy had claimed he and his live-in partner often quarreled because he has no permanent job.

Agsoy also told police walked from Danao City early yesterday morning and in Mandaue he saw the lamppost and decided to climb it.

Gingko said charges are being readied against Agsoy. - THE FREEMAN
