PUJ passenger falls with drugs, knife at checkpoint

CEBU, Philippines - A man was arrested for possession of illegal drugs and deadly weapon during a police checkpoint in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City last Friday.

The suspect was identified as Melvin Maningco, 25, of Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City.

Elements of the Subangdaku police station led by its commander Senior Inspector Frank Oriol initially held Maningco for concealing deadly weapon. Maningco was caught bringing a knife with him during a checkpoint on the national highway. He was one of the passengers of a PUJ flagged down by the police for a routine checkup.

Police Officer 1 Michael Ebrado said they were suspicious of Maningco because he was acting uneasily prompting them to subject the latter for a thorough body frisking.

Ebrado said they found out that Maningco was also in possession of two packs of shabu and drug paraphernalia. The suspect is now detained at the Subangdaku police station while waiting for the filing of the proper charges on Monday.
