Man, 72, kills self

CEBU, Philippines - He could not afford a needed operation for his heart, so he shot himself.

Oscar Villa Estrella, 72, of T. Villa Street, Barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City was found with a bullet hole on his head inside his room at around 2 p.m. last Thursday.

The victim’s wife, 78-year-old Dolores, said that they were having lunch in their kitchen when Oscar excused himself saying he wanted to rest in their room.

While Dolores was cleaning their dining table, she heard the sound of a gunshot from their room. She tried to open their room but it was locked from the inside so she kicked the door open.

She then saw her husband leaning against a cabinet with blood oozing from his head. She immediately sought help from neighbors who rushed the victim to Chong Hua Hospital where doctors declared him already dead.

The victim’s unregistered caliber .38 revolver was recovered with four live ammunitions.

The police ruled out the possibility of foul play after Dolores insisted that her husband was depressed about the needed surgery for his heart which they could not afford. (FREEMAN)
