CEBU, Philippines - Close to 200 families in barangay Tungasan in Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City received relief goods from a Japanese philanthropist yesterday.

Takayuki Murata, founder and coordinator in Japan of JYPKO Foundation, Inc. told The FREEMAN the foundation first talked with barangay and city officials before proceeding with the donation.

Murata, who brought relief goods that were given by friends in Japan, said he himself has seen the situation of the poor residents in Lapu-Lapu City and neighboring places.

Murata said he is happy when he sees people also happy.

He returned to Japan the other day after a brief visit to Lapu-Lapu City and promised to return with another batch of donations.

Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Quennie Malingin-Amman, on the other hand, lauded Murata and JYPKO Foundation, Inc. for the donation of relief goods.

Murata had also been to other barangays in Lapu-Lapu City where he distributed relief goods.

During the administration of Mayor Ernest Weigel, Murata and city officials of Lapu-Lapu formed Friends of Lapu-Lapu City Foundation.

The foundation donates relief goods and gives scholarships to students who cannot afford to pursue a college education.

Some graduates now work in different companies in Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, and Cebu cities. (FREEMAN)
