Talisay SP declares part of sitio under state of calamity

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City council approved Tuesday a resolution declaring a portion of sitio Laray, barangay San Roque, affected by last week’s fire under a state of calamity.

The council allowed Mayor Socrates Fernandez to release P300,000, from the city’s calamity fund, which will be released to the 17 families affected by the fire.

Based on a report by the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center, the fire last February 2 destroyed 14 houses, while one house was partially damaged.

At least 96 individuals are listed as victims.

The resolution, proposed by Councilor Semy Cabuenas, chairman on council committee on social welfare and services, was adopted on mass motion. - THE FREEMAN
