Man stabs ma-in-law and two brods-in-law

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - Three family members landed in the hospital after they were stabbed yesterday dawn inside their house in Alinsug Street, Barangay Basak, Mandaue City.

The victims were identified as Arlita Pepito, 55, and her two sons Peter Jr., 31, and Julius, 26.

The suspect was identified as Maxuel Juanlao, 31, the husband of Pepito’s daughter, Lindy.

Basak Barangay Captain Vicente Dayanan said the suspect allegedly mauled his wife frequently prior to the incident, especially in times when she could not give him money for his vices.

Aside from being a drunkard, the suspect is also allegedly hooked into drugs.

Since last week, Juanlao has reportedly been asking for money that he would use in looking for a job. However, this did not turn out to be the case and he reportedly spent the money elsewhere, which caused trouble in the household. This was what reportedly prompted his in-laws to make him leave the house.

However, he managed to sneak into the house yesterday dawn and again asked money from his wife. When Lindy could not give him anything, Juanlao got irked, went berserk, and began stabbing Lindy’s family.

Juanlao allegedly stabbed Arlita first on the chest, stomach and left arm. He then turned his attention on Peter and stabbed him on his left arm and stomach and eventually to Julius who sustained a graze wound on his right arm and stomach.

Juanlao fled immediately after the incident. The victims were brought to the Mandaue City Hospital.

In an interview yesterday, Basak Police Chief P/Insp. Wilson Abot said all three victims were already in stable condition. Operation is ongoing for Juanlao’s arrest. - THE FREEMAN
